ご‐だいみょうおう【五大明王】‥ミヤウワウ
〔仏〕密教で、威力ある五明王の総称。　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　中央の不動と東南西北の四方に配される降三世ごうさんぜ・軍荼利ぐんだり・大威徳・金剛夜叉（台密では烏枢沙摩うすさま）の各明王。五大尊。五大忿怒。
Five Great Guardian Gods of the Secret Buddhism are guarding each area of the world to protect people from
evil and ill. They were sent to the people's world by Cosmic Buddha God to defeat various kinds of evil. All of them
look angry becauseof their determination to achieve the mission.
Secret Buddhism is one of sects of the Buddhism.It is called Secret Buddhism
because its concept and its substance are so enormous that most of the people who are not exceptionally clever do
not understand it. Cosmic Buddha God is considered to be equal to the universe itself and is the supreme god of all
the gods of the Secret Buddhism.

東 降三世明王 ごうざんぜみょうおう 五大明王守護方向の東方に配されている。　　　
過去、現在、未来の「三世」における、
貪欲（どんよく）瞋恚（しんに）愚痴（ぐち）の三毒を取り覗いてくれる。　　　　　
the east; Go-Zanze Myo-Oh
A Great Guardian God, defending the eastern area, removes people's three
mental viruses in the past, the present and the future. The three mental
viruses are ugly greed, anger, and stupidness to say what is not worthy
to say.
西 大威徳明王 だいいとくみょうおう 五大明王守護方向の西方に配されている。　　
　非常に強力なパワーを持っている五大明王の一神で、
魔王を調伏（ちょうふく）する明王である。さまざまな神通力を持っている。　　　　　　　　　　　　　　
the west Dai-Itoku Myo-Oh
A Great Guardian God, protecting the western area, defeats the king of
evils, poisonous snakes and wicked dragons. This guardian god has various
kinds of gods' super power. This god carries martial weapons
and rides on the back of a water buffalo.
南 軍荼利明王 ぐんだりみょうおう 五大明王守護方向の南方に配されている。　　
　阿修羅や悪鬼といったあらゆる外敵から人間護し障害を取り除いてくれる。
腕に蛇が巻き付き、それは執念を象徴している。
the south Gundari Myo-Oh
A Great Guardian God, defending the southern area, protects people from
the outer-world enemies such as the warlike-martial god and demons. This
guardian god carries snakes around his arms and the snakes are considered
to symbolize this guardian god's strong will to achieve the mission.
北 金剛夜叉明王 こんごうやしゃみょうおう 五大明王守護方向の北方に配されている。　　　
世の中の悪と欲を呑みつくす、とされている。　　
すべての不浄物、内心の汚れや煩悩（ぼんのう）をすべて食い尽くすとされて。
the north Kongo-Yasha Myo-Oh
A Great Guardian God, defending the northern area, eats up all the greed
and evils of people, including such greed as everything that is not clean,
everything that is ethically foul and one-hundred-and-eight (108) desires
which make people worry.
中央 不動明王 ふどうみょうおう 五大明王守護方向の中央に配されている。　　
　悪魔を降伏させ、すべての障害を打ち砕き、人々を救済するとさている。
激しく燃え盛る炎を背後に、右手には「降魔（ごうま）の剣」を持っている。

A Great Guardian God, defending the center, conquers evils, overcomes all
difficulties and saves people equally. This guardian god has a sword to
defeat evils with fire flame on the back. This god symbolizes the feature
of Cosmic Buddha God getting angry with people who are not worthy to save,
